Taxidermied Bubbles
Have you ever seen taxidermied bubbles before? This is a lovely bit of display from the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. It’s from a diorama that imagines the wildlife of Scotland’s past, with wolves chasing a boar while a beaver dives into a nearby stream. This is the type of high quality and well displayed taxidermy that truly manages to create an illusion of life, frozen in time, right down to the unmoving ripples of sunlight through the surface of the water.
Amazingly (or maybe not, when you see the quality of the displays), the museum still has a taxidermy department. They are about to re-open a large part of the museum that has been under development for years, and there will apparently be eight - yes EIGHT - new natural history galleries.
It’s a bit far from Leicester, but I’m definitely gonna have to haul myself back up there some time soon. If these guys can taxidermy bubbles, then they can do anything!
